Herbicide choice around schools and parks carries different stakes than a typical commercial application. Children, pets, and the general public are present daily, and many municipalities and school districts have policies, formal or informal, favoring organic options wherever a synthetic herbicide isn’t strictly necessary. Avenger’s citrus-based, OMRI Listed formulations fit that need well, but knowing where they apply and where they don’t matters just as much as the product choice itself.

Both Avenger products are non-selective, they kill any green vegetation they contact, grass included. For turf areas where the goal is removing weeds without damaging the grass, a selective herbicide labeled for turf use is still the right choice; organic non-selective products aren’t a drop-in replacement there.
Choosing concentrate or ready-to-use
For larger or recurring jobs
Avenger Organic Herbicide Concentrate
70% d-limonene. Mixes at different ratios depending on weed size and difficulty, 1:6 for small weeds, 1:4.5 for larger ones, 1:3 for tough, waxy-leaved weeds like ivy, giving more control over cost per application than a fixed-strength product. Best for full park perimeters or multi-site maintenance days.
For spot treatment
Avenger RTU
17.5% d-limonene, pre-mixed and ready to spray, no measuring or dilution required. Practical for quick jobs between scheduled maintenance, or where seasonal or part-time staff are handling small applications and consistent mixing isn’t realistic to manage.
Application considerations for public spaces
Both products are non-selective, apply carefully around desirable landscaping and never near turf areas you want to keep
Both are combustible; store away from heat sources, consistent with standard chemical storage practice for any maintenance facility
Reentry interval is 4 hours for the Concentrate, after the RTU spray has dried for that product, worth timing applications around school hours or peak park usage
Avoid application during windy conditions or when rain is expected within 2 hours, for both drift control and product effectiveness
